Nursery School Music Teacher

Role Overview
The nursery school music teacher works within a nurturing, developmentally appropriate environment to introduce young learners to music concepts, instruments, movement, and self-expression. The role blends early childhood education with music instruction, ensuring activities are safe, engaging, and aligned with the school’s educational policy of play based.
Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Development & Delivery: Create and implement a developmentally appropriate music program that fosters rhythm, melody, movement, and instrument use (e.g., singing, clapping, simple percussion, movement)

Classroom Management: Establish clear routines and structures for music classes, adapting to the varied needs of young learners in an emotionally responsive way

Student Engagement: Encourage participation, self-expression, and social growth through music activities, modeling positive behavior and collaboration

Collaboration: Work with classroom teachers, administrators, and other staff to integrate music into the broader curriculum and ensure a cohesive educational experience

Documentation & Communication: Observe and document student learning experiences; communicate regularly with parents and caregivers about progress and activities

Professional Growth: Engage in ongoing professional development, cultural competency training, and reflective practice to enhance teaching effectiveness

Health & Safety: Administer basic first aid and address minor health concerns as needed
Qualifications & Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in early childhood education, music education, or a related field. Working on a degree is acceptable as well.

Experience: Demonstrated experience in teaching early childhood music; familiarity with progressive education models (e.g., Reggio Emilia) is an advantage

Skills: Strong communication, collaboration, and cultural competency; ability to adapt teaching to diverse learners; creativity and flexibility; understanding of basic music concepts and how to present them to toddlers and preschoolers

Other: Proficiency in singing, playing an instrument, or using music-based teaching modalities; willingness to work collaboratively and be a lifelong learner
Benefits & Compensation

Hourly Rate: $20.00 to $25.00 based on experience.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, school-day hours 6-10 hours/wk, ideal for someone looking for a work life balance.
